While managing a trade
Your eyes are on an open position. Idea Surfing keeps fresh names crossing your charts, and one click parks the rotation on anything worth a second look.
Idea Surfing is your TikTok for stocks: it shows you the ideas without you having to look. Switch it on and TI Pro walks your charts through the leaders of every open Top List (Trade Ideas’ stock screener results), your Holly Strategy Trades and your Price Alerts, one stock every 7 seconds. Hover over a chart when something looks right and it holds still until you move the mouse away.
Named to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies six years in a row (2017–2022).
The TI Pro User Guide describes Idea Surfing as a passive way to look at stocks. Instead of clicking down each scan yourself, you let TI Pro do the browsing: it takes the stocks at the top of your open lists and shows them on your charts in turn, on a 7-second beat, paced so you can read each chart without being flooded.
The live Trade Ideas page puts it as opportunities on tap: setups come to you while you multitask. The point is coverage. A Top List can rank dozens of names, and Idea Surfing makes sure the leaders of every list you have open actually reach a chart.

Turn on PiP charts and each stock arrives on all your timeframes at once, intraday and longer-term, with your custom ranges kept.
Add a Top List of sector ETFs to the rotation and see whether the stocks your scans surface belong to the sectors that are moving.
Built a new Top List? Let it surf for a while to see the kinds of charts it actually produces before you trade from it.

In a November 2025 post, Trade Ideas CEO Dan Mirkin ties Idea Surfing to two books traders quote often. Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink argues that experienced people read a situation in the first couple of seconds, before overthinking sets in. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s Flow describes the focused state where challenge matches skill and feedback is immediate.
Idea Surfing builds both into the screen. At one chart every 7 seconds, you see about 8.6 charts a minute, each for one clean look before it moves on. Your gut reacts or it doesn’t, and you pause only when a chart earns it. You set the difficulty yourself: how many lists are open, and how tight their filters are. The post notes that Idea Surfing has been in Trade Ideas since 2018.
Surfers watch sets roll in and let most waves pass until one fits. Idea Surfing works the same way: stocks from your scans roll across your charts on a steady rhythm, and you only paddle for one by clicking it.
An October 2023 Trade Ideas post by Katie Gomez draws the wider parallels: reading the water the way a trader reads the market, timing the entry, riding momentum while it lasts and getting off before it fades, and the patience of waiting for the right wave. It also stresses practice, which in Trade Ideas means simulated trading before real money.

Idea Surfing is a setting in TI Pro, the Trade Ideas desktop app for Windows, which also runs on a Mac through Parallels. Symbols from the Holly Strategy Trades window come from Holly AI Signals, which are part of TI Premium along with OddsMaker, Money Machine, Smart Risk Levels and the RBI/GBI windows. See current pricing for what each plan includes.
Top Lists refresh every 15 seconds and are built from 249 filters, so the names Idea Surfing pulls keep changing through the session.
Think of it as TikTok for stocks: Idea Surfing shows you the ideas without you having to look. It is a TI Pro setting that loads stocks from your open scans onto your charts on its own, one every 7 seconds, so new candidates keep appearing while your attention is elsewhere.

Hover your mouse over the chart. Idea Surfing pauses automatically while the mouse is over a chart and resumes when you move the mouse away. To jump to a specific stock yourself, click its symbol in any scan to send it to your charts.
Each open Top List, the Trade Ideas stock screener, feeds its top three symbols into the rotation. Change a Top List’s filters and you change what Idea Surfing shows you.
Yes, if your Top Lists are set up for them. Open a premarket gapper list or a momentum list, such as one sorted on relative volume, and its leaders join the rotation.
A stock scanner alert reports one event the moment it happens. Idea Surfing shows you charts of the stocks currently leading your screener and your alert windows, one look at a time, so you see the setup instead of a line of text.
Yes. A click on a symbol in an Alert or Top List window sends it to your linked charts. Tools, Options, General lets you pick single-click or double-click, and enable the up and down arrow keys for moving through alerts.
